Garages sales and fish braais

Since we’ve been living here I’ve realised a couple of things:

- you only need a few basic pieces of furniture and kitchen stuff to live comfortably. Since our house is still pretty empty, it gives us so much more living space, which is perfect when you have two little crazy boys in the house.
- you have so much more free time when you’re not renovating a house and the weekends are definitely a lot more fun. Even with the kids around we find our life a lot more cruisy.

You might be wondering what we’re doing in the weekend. Well, on Saturday mornings I usually get up early to race off to garage sales in the neighbourhood. Instead of all waiting for the yearly edition of the flea market in your village you just organise one yourself in your garage. If you don’t have enough stuff, you will easily find neighbours or friends who want to join in. To make sure you’ve got enough buyers, you can have your garage sale published in the Friday edition of the local newspaper, which will print an overview of all the garage sales of the weekend .
Driving to these sales is a perfect way to get to know the neighbourhood and meet new people. This is how we actually got to know the South African-Kiwi couple from around the corner, who invited us for dinner tonight. Philip is a big fan of spear fishing, so we might have a typical South African fish braai tonight! To be continued...
